Swedish Massage may be the most common type of massage – why?

A gentle Swedish massage revitalizes you.
Swedish Massage1

It's simple. Swedish massage revitalizes and energizes the body.

This is done by applying lotion and using gentle, smooth strokes. This helps to improve circulation and relieve body tension.

Five primary techniques are used during the Swedish massage session. These are why this massage is called "Swedish." They are:

Effleurage: a circular stroking movement made with the palm of the hand.

Petrissage: a  technique that involves kneading the body.

Friction: an accurately delivered penetrating pressure applied through fingertips.

Vibration: massage applied with a light, rhythmic, quivering motion, often performed with a mechanical device.

Tapotement:  a rhythmic percussion, most frequently administered with the edge of the hand, a cupped hand or the tips of the fingers.
